Sir: The shame of passport delays is nothing compared with the queues in other areas of public life. If you are old and disabled trying to claim a benefit you can easily wait over six months. This happened to my parents, who made a claim for attendance allowance in December which the Benefits Agency has still not processed. I am told this is quite common.
