Sir: Deborah Orr states that "the sole fact of knowing someone, or not knowing someone, is no more relevant to rape than it is to burglary" (Comment, 6 July). I can assure her that, after listening to evidence in rape trails and committals over many years, I would rather be raped by someone I knew, and burgled by someone I did not know.
