Sir: Your editorial "On your bikes, brothers" (27 August) confuses two points. The ownership of car companies is not very important, but where they manufacture is. Ford and Vauxhall have been foreign-owned for more than 60 years but have manufactured here. If we bought a million fewer foreign-built cars and made them here instead, we would have 100,000 or more extra jobs here. This would mean less spent on unemployment benefit, and more to spend on improved public transport or lower taxes, or both.
