Sir: The incident involving a passenger jet and a light aircraft at Birmingham Airport ("Wings overlap in jet's near miss", 9 September) appears to have been due in part to a misunderstanding over the radio frequencies involved. In view of this, is it not possible for the radio frequency used by the aircraft to be changed automatically by a signal from the ground? The technology required is well established. It has been applied in cellular mobile systems for some 30 years.
