Sir: The Home Secretary's "`blitz on burglars" (report, 2 October) will only be effective if the courts recognise that burglary is a crime against the person, and not a simple property crime. The invasion and destruction of the security of home leaves many victims traumatised and frightened. Until the justice system starts treating burglary as an offence more akin to mugging, and not on a par with passing forged cheques or vandalising traffic signs, Britain will continue to be repeat offender heaven.
