Sir: I am surprised that couples who voluntarily remain childless ("Why children are a choice, not a duty", 17 November) can be accused of selfishness. Those who choose not to have children are taking the most effective means at their disposal to reduce their contribution to carbon dioxide emissions. We should be grateful to Jayne Sutcliffe for nurturing cats rather than children.
