letter: In Brief
Sir: I too walked out of one Royal Shakespeare Company production this year and survived another hearing about 50 per cent of near-inaudible text (letter, 14 November).
I asked for my money back but was refused on the grounds that the artistic director found the performance "adequate".
Stratford is pampered with public money. There is some wonderful, serious theatre in London not backed by public money. Maybe that is the answer: theatre should be good to succeed and not receive public subsidy. It would thus attract only the best performances and direction.
