Letter: In Brief

Sir: At the Trades Union Congress meeting last week the word "millennium" was raised officially only once. Hardly in fear of the predicted 8 per cent of companies which will fail because of the Millennium Bug (National Audit Office prediction, May 1998) with consequent job losses, the TUC was concerned merely with the proposed extended bank holiday for the end of the century.

For many of their members there will be a "holiday" that extends uncomfortably into the year 2000. Surely those poor workers deserve better representation from their unions.
