Sir: An MoD spokeswoman objects to protesters bringing hammers and other tools to the Faslane naval base ("Anti-nuclear protesters attack subs with treacle", 19 August). How else does she think that are going to turn swords, or nuclear submarines, into ploughshares? I would have thought that hammers would be needed at the very least, and more likely some heavy cutting equipment. This kind of fuzzy logic on the part of the MoD probably explains why they have nuclear submarines in the first place.
