Sir: I'm sorry to disappoint Pandora (Review, 29 October), but the reason that many restaurants - including some of ours on occasions - buy McCain sliced potatoes is that they are better quality than can be bought in an unpeeled state.

There is, you will be sorry to hear, a complete difference between McCain sliced potatoes which are just simply sliced potatoes and McCain oven- ready chips which are ideal for busy restaurants critics.
