Sir: David Lister ("TV's classic shows are missing", 8 October) stated that ITN had "lost the first News at Ten".

In fact, ITN Archive holds the original negatives of edited stories from that famous bulletin, which include items on the end of a rail strike and on the Queen speaking in French. The newscasters' live introductions were not recorded, the cost at the time being prohibitive.
