Sir: I wholeheartedly agree with the Prime Minister that the recent bombing campaign against minority elements of our society was an attack on us all. That such actions will only serve to unite our resolve as a nation seems unarguable.

But then we are British. The Serbs presumably are made of less stern stuff. Which is why our bombing campaign against them will not stir up similar feelings of defiance and unity. Or are they?
