Letter: Operatic insult

Sir: I fully agree with John Hayward (letter, 4 December). To most opera-lovers, grand opera means Verdi, Mozart, Puccini, Bizet. For the millions of television viewers who know what a beautiful voice Placido Domingo has, the Wagner "love duet" at the Royal Opera House gala was a great disappointment. It does nothing to show the range and musicality of the tenor voice. Two German composers and no Italian was an insult to us all.
