Letter: Paying the piper
Letter: Paying the piper
Sir: In bowing to the vainglorious demands of Alan Grieve and the Jerwood Foundation, the board of the Royal Court and its apologists have overlooked the fact that taxpayers have contributed more than pounds 9m in Arts Council revenue grants over the past ten years alone.
They have forgotten their paying audiences, who have undoubtedly given even more. They obviously care little for the Lottery players who have contributed more than pounds 18m towards the redevelopment of the theatre.
I fear they may live to regret selling off such a substantial and long- term public commitment at any price, let alone so cheaply.
