Sir: We have had welcome condemnation of the violence in East Timor from the Foreign Secretary. But the British Government needs to go further. It should introduce an immediate moratorium on the sale and supply to Indonesia of military equipment and training that could be used for human rights violations. Such a move would significantly intensify diplomatic pressure on the Indonesian government to protect the East Timorese people.
