Sir: Blair comes across smoothly as the saviour of the Balkan peasantry, but only when his pal Clinton is in domestic trouble and searching for a far-flung war which he hopes will deflect attention away from his extramarital affairs.
It is times like these which reveal the profound cynicsm of the "special relationship". Suddenly, overnight, the friends of Noriega, Saddam, General Zia, Papa Doc, Peron, Batista and Pol Pot, become the champions of the oppressed.
