Sir: As a recovering nicotine abuser I can empathise with David Aaronovitch. He should follow the example of an American friend who has prepared a graphic, four-page leaflet on emphysema (with gruesome photos). She habitually hands out copies out with proselytising zeal to smokers who dare to violate her air space.
