Sir: I enjoyed John Walsh's "Irish Stew" (2 November) so much that I almost didn't bother to pick him up on a small point, but I do.

It wasn't "roasted yeast" he could smell; rather roasted barley. Roast the yeast and you'll kill it and then where would we all be? Sober, I guess.
