Letter: The BBC World view

Sir: I was one of Kate Adie's rare English viewers of BBC World - trying, of all things, to keep up with the Clinton impeachment while in Peru (Letters, 24, 25, 28, 30 June).

To my delight as well as surprise, BBC World's coverage was better and more comprehensive than CNN's. It is incomprehensible for so intelligent a Foreign Secretary as Robin Cook not to cough up the necessary to ensure that there are no further cuts to a channel that serves British interests so well and cost-effectively.

While he is about it, he should get together with Greg Dyke to reverse the silly changes the Birt regime made to the radio World Service.
