Letter: Vegetables in pain

Vegetables in pain
Sir: A humorous letter from William Salaman on cruelty to vegetables (28 July). But since feeling pain would not help plants to survive, it is unlikely that they have the ability. With animals, however, this is a necessity. Otherwise, they would remain motionless while chunks were being bitten out of them.
