Letter: Wakeful children

E. Hall

Sir: Most young children who wake in the night will feel some loneliness and anxiety and will seek company and reassurance ("How to turn nightmares into sleeping beauties", 29 September). As a mother of three young children I have always welcomed them into our bed at night when they wake or have gone to their bedside to settle them. At no time would I have identified their waking as "problem" behaviour.

It always amazes me how adults, who would feel sad and lonely without their loved ones at night, are surprised when their children express the same feelings.

Mrs E HALL
