Letter: Who lost the peace?

Sir: Steve Wallis (letter, 16 July) is right on the mark with his suggestion that English, Scots and Welsh should have a referendum to see whether Northern Ireland should remain part of the UK. The Government has never sought the views of British voters on this subject.

But the referendum should be more specific and should ask: " Do you think Northern Ireland should (a) remain part of the UK, or (b) become part of a united Ireland or (c) become an independent self-governing territory?"
