Letters: Ban the sweatshops

Sir: Trying to improve working conditions in Far East garment factories is one problem. Preventing the British shopper being duped is another.

All goods should indicate clearly the country of origin. Recently I tried in vain to find a British-made jerkin. Worse, where the source of manufacture was indicated it was in tiny letters on a small tag weaselled away inside a pocket. Shop assistants, genuinely, had little idea of the sources of their stock. M&S had a confusing item - the prominent label said "Italian" but the wee inside tag said "Made in Hungary".
