Blair's mission

Sir: You report the Prime Minister's message to the Labour conference: "We have done an awful lot in two years, but there is an awful lot more to do."

One cannot disagree. Among the awful lot of things done have been curtailment of the right to trial by jury, the deprivation of legal aid for many deserving people, the attack on single-parent families, introduction of waiting lists to get on hospital waiting lists, centralisation of power in the hands of the Prime Minister and his unelected associates, and their control of selection of candidates by the list system.

And awful things still to be done? They include the Concealment of Information Bill, completion of the abolition of cabinet government, the sidelining of the promised more democratic electoral system, and setting up an unelected and appointed House of Lords.
