Quantum nudge

Sir: In quantum mechanics, systems such as electron states have energy levels which are discrete values. The difference between one energy level and the next (higher or lower) is the smallest value it is possible to take (a quantum step). When your Derek Pringle uses the term "quantum leaps" to describe the improvements needed by the national cricket team ("Rain comes to England's rescue", 10 August) I imagine that he actually means the opposite of the smallest possible amount.
