In memoriam: Ella Fitzgerald

I must have been quite young then

I saw her on TV

"Lady Be Good" - I think it was

It meant sod all to me

She tore into this number

And ripped the thing apart

The trouble with jazz

From a pop fan's view

Is it's far too much like Art

So I was in the kitchen

Knocking up a brew

When John called out,

"Oi, look at this,"

And I came shuffling through

And heard this brilliant racket

I later found was scat

The woman's name was Ella That's all there was to that

Except to say that later

I bought this one LP

Which got nicked at a party

Circa '83
