MOST of the country has been smothered in Saatchi & Saatchi posters showing how typical Radio 3 listeners now sit in traffic jams in elderly Jaguars. Birmingham, however, has had a special treat: a rear view of a conductor with arms raised, over the caption 'Elgar Scores for the City'. This is supposed to alert you to the joys of next week's festival at Symphony Hall featuring most of the BBC's orchestras. The only trouble is that Birmingham people like to call their team the Blues. Pity Elgar didn't write something for Bessie Smith. And he supported Wolves, too.
