American jazz pianist Hank Jones died on Sunday in a New York hospital following a short illness, his agent Jean-Pierre Leduc who lives in Montreal told AFP. Jones was 91.
Jones, who was born into a musical family, was the older brother of Elvin Jones, the legendary drummer for John Coltrane, and of trumpeter Thad Jones - both deceased.
Jones had remained very active in his last years, despite his age, touring Europe in 2009, with shows in Vienna, Paris, Geneva, the Czech Republic and Istanbul.
Leduc said he saw him "serene and smiling" at the hospital on Saturday. He fell sick in March.
