A self taught guitarist and pianist, Caitlyn Scarlett left the small town of Bray aged 17 for London.

Citing as diverse a range of influences as MIA and Kate Bush; Bob Dylan to Gwen Stefani, her new single 'Rust' is sung in Scarlett's signature soulful style.

We're premiering 'Rust' which is released on Friday - take a listen and let us know what you think.

Scarlett says of the track: “Writing Rust was therapy for me. It’s about that very sad point that some relationships reach, where both people grow in a separate direction and things become beyond repair. Especially if there’s been a betrayal of trust.

"I’m a hopeless romantic so when my first relationship ended, it shattered a lot of my idillic beliefs about love and how the story of my life was going to look. I’ve spent so much time mentally pacing down memory lane, at times it’s felt like my address”

Q&A with Caitlyn Scarlett

What are you up to this summer?

I'm having a chilled summer to be honest, looking after my pet rabbit, watering my pot plants and working on my music takes up most of my time really. Going to try to get as many festivals in as possible as well. I was at Lattitude which was great. Hoping to get to Bestival and maybe V Fest as well.

First gig, best gig?

The first gig I ever played was a 4 song set in my Village's little pub when I was 15. There were about 20 people there in total and I wore a massive floaty skirt, played acoustic guitar and sang about cars and boys. My new material will require a slightly different set up I think!

I think my first ever gig was possibly my favourite one as well. Its good to look back at where it all began and see how things can progress over time. With my new material I will be experimenting a fair bit and have a whole new band and set up in place so its going to be really exciting to see how the music comes across live.
