Music Box #28: Áine Cahill

23-year-old singer Áine Cahill is a force to be reckoned with.

Hailing from County Cavan, Ireland, she discovered her love of music aged 16 and since then has developed her own style of pop music, which draws on a passion for classic 50s jazz and has drawn comparisons to Adele, Amy Winehouse and Lana Del Rey.

In our "Ones to Watch" feature for 2018, we said: "Áine Cahill has enjoyed breakthrough success this year with her excellent single “Plastic” and the fierce follow-up “Blood Diamonds”, a song she introduced as being about “all the bad bitches in the world who get everything, and us nice bitches, who get nothing”; the heady electronic beat pulses beneath her irresistible vocal work.

"Following a spate of shows and festivals and venues around the UK she took part in The Great Escape festival’s “First Fifty” gig series in November. Stopping by for a Music Box session, she performed three songs including originals "Black Dahlia" and "Plastic", plus a great cover of "Bellyache" by Billie Eilish.

She also managed to smash our studio record for fastest filming time, because she's an utter pro.

Watch the video (above), enjoy! Catch her live at The King's Head in London on 12 April.
