Disciples Q&A: Production trio on their plans for 2018

'We’re all musical and now is the right time to lay it out alongside the releases of albums that will portray the different sides to us'

Earlier in November we brought Duvall from production trio Disciples into the studio for a Facebook live, where he, a guitarist and two fantastic backing singers performed three stripped-down songs.

It's likely you will have heard their hit "How Deep Is Your Love" with Calvin Harris, which reached the top 10 in over 20 countries, but you may not recognise this version. The guys also performed "On My Mind" and their latest single "Jealousy".

After their performance we caught up with Disciples about their plans for 2018, including an upcoming show at KOKO in London. If you missed the session first-time round you can watch it below:

What are you guys listening to at the moment?

Gavin: The last mix that I’ve been replaying is one of Richy Ahmed’s Mixmag Labs, which I’ve had on repeat for a minute or two.

Also been listening to Post Malone, he’s fucking amazing. He’s got this rock/hip-hop style and I’ve had his latest track ‘Rockstar’ on repeat. That’s something all three of us have been slamming out the speakers.

Also Oasis; ‘Champagne Supernova’ is one of their songs that I’ve been banging out recently. The album, ‘Definitely Maybe’, is an absolute classic. I went to go and see a Liam Gallagher gig three days ago in Dubai. I only found out on the day of the show and I thought that I need to go and check it out. It was wicked.

What are your plans for 2018?

We’re just trying to consistently release music. Our album’s coming up within the first half of next year and then we hope to get back on the road, develop our live shows and make sure we have some time to be in the studio in between. It’s going to be an exciting year. I think it’s going to be our busiest year yet. Looking at our touring schedule already, there are some pretty cool gigs coming up. We’re just keeping it moving.

Ahead of your KOKO gig, how have you been finding a balance between stripped-down acoustic and the more upbeat, dance, electronic music?

Without giving away too much before the show, we’ve always had this side to us; doing all the vocals inside the group. We’re all musical and now is the right time to lay it out alongside the releases of albums that will portray the different sides to us.

It’s not an easy line to walk, to be able to do the more acoustic side as well as doing the more underground DJ sets - but we’re just trying to be ourselves and that’s who we are.

What’s been a high point of 2017 for you guys?

Just to see how ‘On My Mind’ grew and for it to accomplish what it did, was amazing. That’s one of the tracks that was really just us three in the studio vibing. There were no other people involved and no collaborations, so to have that track, out of all the tracks that we’ve released, get that attention and achieve Gold, was amazing. I think that was definitely the high point.
