Welcome return: Few voices match the drama, grace and emotion of Eliza and Norma
Welcome return: Few voices match the drama, grace and emotion of Eliza and Norma

Following a serious illness for Norma Waterson and months off-road for Eliza Carthy, it's a welcome return to the stage for mother and daughter, and the marvellous Gift Band featuring husband and father Martin Carthy, Phil Alexander and Aidan Curran.

They're powerful, singular singers, and you'll travel a long way before finding anything to match the drama, grace and emotion of their voices.

The Gift album appeared in 2010, and during Norma's illness last year, a live set from the Union Chapel (where they play again on 9 December) was released, a wonderful record of the song repertoire the Gift Band proffered up like loaves and fishes.

So what's not to like? Every day's a Cockaigny day and a Saturday night when the Gift Band start to play.
