Copenhagen duo Palace Winter have announced their new album Nowadays and are premiering its first single "Take Shelter" via The Independent.

Following the release of their debut Waiting For The World To Turn, the band are back with a new record.

"Take Shelter" opens with the piano and the pair's expansive harmonies, emboldened by a blast of synths on the chorus.

Q&A with Palace Winter

What are you listening to at the moment?

Carl: Lots of great recent stuff like Ariel Pink’s record from last year and Timber Timbre’s latest was super inspiring too, full of dark grooves. Also just rediscovered ‘Real Gone’ by Tom Waits after he and his wife Kathleen Brennan went back and re-mastered it. That album is mind-blowing. But all his stuff is. Really digging the new MGMT singles too. Looking forward to that album.

Caspar: Mostly instrumental music in different shapes and sizes lately. Beautiful ambient/experimental synth stuff from Abul Mogard, Wolfgang Voigt and Keith Fullerton Whitman, and then I’ve rediscovered Keith Jarrett’s solo piano albums (Sun Bear Concerts in particular) which represent a huge defining moment in my musical upbringing. Anyone who thinks they know how to improvise should humbly listen to this and hear how it’s done.

What are your plans for 2018?

We’re super excited to release our new album Nowadays in May and get back on the road. We’ve got a little tour in March including our first show in Amsterdam which will be sick and we’re psyched to get back to London and Manchester for a pint! Then we’ll tour the summer and get writing and recording on the next album.

What was the first gig you ever played and what's been the best so far?

We’ve had some amazing live experiences but up there with the best would be Green Man Festival 2016. We slept in some country house outside Gloucester in what felt like a scene from The Wicker Man, woke up, drove to Green Man and played to thousands of lovely peeps in the tent. We were overwhelmed. And Wales is stunning! Our first gig was as first gigs go; a half-empty crappy club in Copenhagen and heaps of fun!

Nowadays, the new album from Palace Winter, is out on 4 May 2018
