Glastonbury 2014: Mumford and Sons to host intimate mini-festival

Mumford and Sons are to host a mini festival at Glastonbury – a year after they headlined the musical extravaganza.

The British folk rock band announced that their Gentlemen of the Road label will be taking over the Avalon Café in the Field of Avalon on Saturday.

Acts confirmed so far include Johnny Flynn, Michael Kiwanuka and Nick Mulvey.

The band enigmatically said that there will be “room for some surprises too”, leading to rumours that they may take to the stage themselves to perform an intimate set.

However, the quartet quashed the whispers on their Facebook page, writing yesterday: “*Please note* this is a Gentleman of the Road event only and NOT a Mumford & Sons performance.”

It is three years since Mumford and Sons played the Other Stage and six years since they made their debut appearance at the world-famous music festival.

This year's event will see Metallica, Kasabian and Arcade Fire headlining the world-famous musical extravaganza, with other major acts on the bill including The Black Keys, Massive Attack and Pixies.

The addition of Metallica has divided opinion; with many saying their heavy metal sound does not fit the “hippy” vibe of the festival.

But farmer Michael Eavis, who organised the first event in 1970, said he believes the American four-piece deserve their spot as no other band has ever been as “keen” to play.
