At the MTV Video Music Awards on September 12, Kanye West premiered a new song, "Runaway," as well as the trailer for a film of the same name. A studio version of the song has since been shared as a stream and free mp3 download, and the film clip can now be found at the rapper's website.
MTV's Buzzworthy blog says of West's performance of "Runaway" at the awards ceremony: "With a solemn and sad piano intro, played by hand through a sampler (which was West's only instrument) and a stage show that seemed to pay homage to the upcoming film Black Swan, Kanye West performed a new song called 'Runaway,' with the help of The Clipse's Pusha T and three ballerinas."
Some of that aesthetic also makes its way into the clip for West's upcoming film, which the rapper has said is set to be released alongside his new album, Dark Twisted Fantasy. The 45-second trailer, now up on West's website, includes images of a deserted forest road, deer, a ballerina, a woman dressed in feathers, and a silhouetted West carrying a woman away from a fiery backdrop.
On September 13 the Los Angeles radio show In Flex We Trust posted the studio version of "Runaway," which also features Pusha T; the track can now be streamed and downloaded from the show's website.
"Runaway" is expected to be included on Dark Twisted Fantasy, West's fifth studio album, which is expected to drop on November 16. The album includes collaborations with Charlie Wilson, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and Kid Cudi, among others.
