On June 28, multilingual rock trio Blonde Redhead is the most blogged act of the moment according to The Hype Machine, having recently announced details of its next studio album. Dance punk group LCD Soundsystem and dark electronic trio Salem hold second and third place, while Passion Pit climbs the chart and The Books has just entered the top ten.

Passion Pit, an electronic band from Cambridge, Massachusetts, recently recorded a track as part of denim brand Levi's Pioneer Sessions covers project, which has already seen participation from She & Him, Nas, The Swell Season, and Dirty Projectors. Bloggers are passing around Passion Pit's contribution - a cover of Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight" - and commenting on the cover. The World Forgot (www.theworldforgot.com) writes, "...they've left the song almost entirely intact; they've simply updated the instrumentation and swapped out Billy Corgan's vocals for ethereal pixie harmonies. Well done."

New York electronic/folk duo The Books has just released a new track, called "A Cold Freezin' Night," off forthcoming album The Way Out (due out July 20). The track is the second the duo has so far leaked from the album, following "Beautiful People." Potholes in My Blog (potholesinmyblog.com) describes the new offering: "'A Cold Freezin' Night' features the chaotic sampling we have come to know and love from The Books, with a rather interesting twist on things. Using a tape recorder, The Books recorded children making adult-like confessions, creating some seriously thought-provoking music."
