New music to listen to this week: Otherkin
Now Hear This
"You know what a vice is? They're things that certain people would consider immoral or 'bad'. Drugs, sex, cigarettes, lying through your teeth, the usual.
"They're bad habits. Habits that form because they feel really good. They're things that you pick up and play with for a while and then leave down, but not for long. You always end up coming back for one more hit, for one more spin of the wheel. Otherkin are the New Vice" - Otherkin
Formed around two years ago, Otherkin are a raucous Dublin fourpiece that already have slots at Longitude and Electric Picnic under their belts, along with supprt for Palma Violets and the equally-raucous Parquet Courts.
Basically they're just a big mass of energy - four guys who write hugely infectious tracks with rough, snarling vocals and grunge riffs.
We're premiering the band's new single "Yeah I Know" off their upcoming EP The New Vice. Check it out below and let us know what you think:
Q&A with Otherkin
What have you been listening to recently?
We’ve been listening to a ton of new music; Irish bands like Thumper, Raglans and All Tvvins have been putting out killer tunes lately and we’ve been playing the latest tracks from Black Honey and Estrons in the van a lot.
What are you up to for summer 2016?
Summer’s gonna be an absolute riot; we’re playing our first shows in France, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Serbia alongside heaps of festivals in the UK (Reading & Leeds was our first ever UK show so we can’t wait to get back), the Netherlands and Ireland. See you in the front row.
What was the first gig you ever played, and what’s been the best so far?
Our first show was at a house party in our place, the 201. The police were called within the first hour and the whole thing was a goddamn beautiful disaster. Hail Satan xx
Otherkin play The Social in London on 4 May for War Child - the band are confirmed to perform at Isle of Wight, Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape and Live at Leeds this summer. Check out more of their music here.
