10 best film soundtracks of all-time according to Classic FM, including Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter

For the sixth year running, Classic FM listeners have voted Howard Shore’s music for The Lord of the Rings the best soundtrack of all time.
The Oscar-winning trilogy managed to see out competition from John Williams’ score for Shindler’s List and Hans Zimmer’s Gladiator.
However, Williams shouldn’t be too down about missing the top spot as his soundtracks feature eight times in the top 30, with Saving Private Ryan, ET and Raiders of the Lost Ark all scoring highly, while the original Star Wars, Harry Potter and Jurassic Park all sit in the top 10.
21,000 votes were cast by listeners, with Hans Zimmer’s work on Interstellar becoming the highest new entry at 43. Here are the top 10:
Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins, told Classic FM: " The music is a huge part of the identity of those films. I think film scores are always extremely important with regard to the atmosphere and the emotional connection that you have to a film.
"Those pieces of music - you think about the Hobbiton theme - they're really iconic."
The less popular Hobbit soundtrack, also done by Shore, came in at 35.
