A Star Is Born: Lady Gaga releases Bradley Cooper collaboration 'Shallow'
The two star opposite each other in the latest version of the romantic musical
The main duet between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from their forthcoming film A Star Is Born has been released.
Titled “Shallow,” the power ballad sees the musician and actor-director harmonising over acoustic guitar and piano. Its accompanying video features clips from the film which has been receiving rave reviews following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival last month.
Gaga wrote the song alongside Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt and Anthony Rossomando. You can listen to it below.
Speaking about discovering Cooper's vocal ability, Gaga told Zane Lowe: “I was blown away by it, you know, because the truth is that there’s people that can technically sing perfectly and have no soul. He just sings from his soul and he knows how to tell a story when he’s singing and I heard it right away. And I knew in that moment – you know, I’m kind of a bit of a snob when it comes to watching actors play rock star, but I’m telling you, I was like, this man knows how to be a rock star.”
The film is a revival of the story that follows a hard-drinking musician who discovers a young singer that he falls in love with. There have been three previous versions: one in 1937 starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric Marsh, another in 1954 starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and one in 1976 starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Cooper directs this remake from a script he co-wrote alongside Will Fetters and Eric Roth. Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay and Greg Grunberg also star.
A Star Is Born is released on 3 October with the soundtrack landing on 5 October.
