After Left Shark: Super Bowl halftime palm tree speaks out about Katy Perry's 'absurd' routine

Left Shark was drafted in two days before the event, explaining its terrible performance

The New England Patriots, the Seattle Seahawks, Katy Perry and every other performing musician was overshadowed at last night's Super Bowl by a dude/lady in a shark suit with a poor grasp of the dance routine.

Perry's dancing sharks were rampantly screen grabbed and soon trending during the half time show, leading the internet to pronounce with trademark hyperbole: "We are all Left Shark".

The section of the medley was as derided as it was celebrated, and now a dancer who dressed as a palm tree for the performance has painted a much-needed behind-the-scenes picture in a Reddit AMA.

The most important findings:

Left Shark was so crap because they were drafted in two days before the performance.

"The sharks were originally supposed to be dancers from Mesa Community College but 2-3 days before the performance Katy decided she wanted her own people in costume.

"The worst part is the MCC dancers had been practicing it for much longer and definitely knew it better at least in my opinion."

Despite adverts being worth $4.5 million for every 30 seconds, the dancers weren't paid. They weren't even allowed to keep their costumes.

"We were not compensated. It was a volunteer position.

"I volunteered and I'm not upset that I didn't get paid. It was a great experience and I got to work with some great people. Definitely worth it.

"We didn't get to keep the costumes :("

UPDATE: We may have found Left Shark, he's on Tinder bragging: "I am the shark. You'll see."

They didn't even get to meet Katy Perry.

"She showed up to our Props Cast rehearsal on Monday and said hi. That's the closest any of us got to meeting her. She seemed nice, bubbly personality. Also she has the cutest damn dog, it looks like a teddy bear."

The dancer didn't care that they looked 'absurd'

"I honestly didn't care what it looked like. It's Katy Perry so I knew it would be a little absurd. Just the opportunity was enough to outweigh the drawbacks to the costume."

It takes a rocket scientist to dance like a palm tree.

"I'm 22. I want to build rockets. I'm a senior in Aerospace Engineering at ASU."
