Arctic Monkeys channel Stanley Kubrick in 'Four Out Of Five' music video

It marks the group's first single from new record Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino

Arctic Monkeys have dropped the first single from their brand new album days after it was released.

“Four Out Of Five” is the selected track from Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino which was unveiled on Friday (11 May) to a mixed reaction from fans (thankfully, the majority of critics - including The Independent - were far more positive).

The video, clearly inspired by the work of several film directors - most notably Stanley Kubrick - sees frontman Alex Turner wandering through corridors of a stately home (the same one featured in the filmmaker's very own Barry Lyndon), photographing horses and driving around an underground location.

While the locations and their colours (garish orange, flashes of red) incites Kubrick classics A Clockwork Orange and The Shining, its style is far more inspired by the likes of Jean-Luc Godard and Rainer Wener Fassbinder, who TV serial World on a Wire is said to have inspired Turner to write “Science Fiction" which became a springboard for the entire record.

Nick O'Malley, Matt Helders and Jamie Cook also appear in the video, with Turner showing up as two versions of himself: one with a beard, another without.

Arctic Monkeys have just completed several US shows ahead of a string of festival dates, including Primavera Sound in Barcelona, after which they'll head to the UK for several dates including a homecoming show in Sheffield. later this year.
