BBC Biggest Weekend: Little Mix, The 1975 and Miley Cyrus to headline Radio 1 festival
This year's festival will take place in Middlesbrough, Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Greg James revealed
Little Mix, The 1975 and Miley Cyrus are the first headliners to be announced for Radio 1's Big Weekend, while this year's location has been revealed as Middlesbrough.
The news was revealed by Greg James on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, who said: "I can't wait to take some of the best acts on the planet to Middlesbrough."
The music festival will take place at Stewart Park on 25 and 26 May, and also feature performances from Zara Larsson, Mabel and Khalid.
Little Mix said they were "so excited" to perform at the event, which is now in its 16th year. They recently won a Brit Award for Best Video, while The 1975 took home the prizes for Best British Group and the coveted Best British Album award.
Middlesbrough mayor Dave Budd described the announcement as a "major coup" for the town and said he was looking forward to "welcoming the world".
Last year Radio 1 hosted its "Biggest Weekend", which took place at several locations around the UK including Swansea, where there were performances by Taylor Swift, Florence and the Machine, Sam Smith, Jason Derulo, Bastille, Craig David, and Ed Sheeran.
Information on tickets and more performances will be released in the coming weeks.
