Beady Eye's Liam Gallagher booked to perform on The Voice (but Noel said 'no' to The X Factor)

Liam Gallagher has been booked as an unlikely guest on BBC1 talent show The Voice - and claimed it has been ambition to appear on the series.

The star will perform with his band Beady Eye on this weekend's semi-final, just days after he made a u-turn on a pledge to appear on rival TV hit show The X Factor, claiming he had just been "messing about".

Liam, whose band's new album BE is soaring towards the top of the charts this weekend, has defended his planned appearance in anticipation of criticism for showing up on the pop show.

"Really looking forward to doing The Voice - it's been a lifelong ambition," he said.

"If being asked to sing live and in tune on a programme that promotes the voice is a crime then shoot me."

Liam said earlier this year that the group were aiming to appear on X Factor but last week announced: "We've changed our mind now."

The singer's brother Noel was once sounded out by Simon Cowell to be an X Factor judge, but declined.

Beady Eye will perform new single Second Bite Of The Apple on Saturday's edition of The Voice.

Liam has proclaimed that fans of his old act Oasis need to "grow up" and stop taking sides between his new band and his brother Noel's group High Flying Birds.

Oasis split in 2009 following a row between the two feuding siblings, with both going on to launch their own music projects.

Fans should base their view of the bands on the strength of their music, Liam said.

"I read stuff. It's divided innit? And it's like 'he's a dick' and 'he's not a dick'. Everyone should just wind their necks in," said Liam who formed Beady Eye with former Oasis stars Andy Bell and Gem Archer.

"I'm not saying you've got to go and buy our record. You only buy it if you like it. But there's a lot of hatred to certain members of bands, whether it's me or Noel, and I just think it's stupid.

"They don't have to act like dicks just 'cause me and our kid are. They should just grow up."

Despite the rift with Noel, Liam said he does not rule out an Oasis reunion next year to mark 20 years since their debut album Definitely Maybe.

"I'm not against nothing. Never say never but right now this is where we're at," he said.
