X Factor winner Ben Haenow scores Christmas number one
Haenow beat Mark Ronson whlie Ed Sheeran broke yet another record

Ben Haenow has taken the Christmas top spot with his X Factor winner’s single “Something I Need”.
The former van driver’s One Republic cover held off tough competition from “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, The Pogues’ festive classic “Fairytale of New York” and surprise last minute contender The Wealdstone Raider with “Got No Fans”.
Haenow’s combined chart sales figure is currently at over 214,000, with proceeds going to charity Together For Short Lives.
“Something I Need” is the second fastest-selling single of the year behind Band Aid 30’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” reboot for the Ebola crisis, which shifted almost 313,000 copies in November.
“To have even been in the running for Christmas number one against some of the names that were in the race and then to have actually won is incredible,” Haenow told OfficialCharts.com.
“I’m gonna go and have a few good drinks with my mates…definitely more than a few good drinks…to really celebrate! I’m absolutely shocked. I can’t believe it.”
Elsewhere, “Uptown Funk” has broken the record for the most streams in a single week with 2.34 million this week, beating previous record holder Ed Sheeran and “Thinking Out Loud”.
Sheeran has broken yet another Official Charts Company record by scoring the biggest one week sales of any artist album in 2014.
His album, X, has sold more than 214,000 copies in the past seven days, meaning a lot of you can expect the record in your stocking come Thursday.
