Bill Burr roasted over comments during handing out awards for a series of Latin categories

Bill Burr presented the Best Tropical Latin Album award at the Grammys ceremony on Sunday (14 March) – leaving many viewers scratching their heads.

The comedian joked that “feminists are like going nuts” about him presenting the prize.

“Why is this cis-white male doing all this Latino stuff?” he mocked.

He also announced the winner of the Best Regional Mexican Music award, Natalia Lafourcade, but mispronounced her name and apologised.

Many viewers took to Twitter to question why the King of Staten Island actor was chosen to present the awards, with one person writing: “Seems like a strange booking decision.”

Another added: “Bill Burr presenting classical and Latin categories speaks to the insensitivity and irrelevance of The Grammys. I will look forward to anything Bill Burr does, and continue ignoring the Grammys.”

Burr also sparked controversy on social media during a recent appearance on Saturday Night Live.

The notoriously provocative stand-up comedian performed a routine that covered topics including “cancel culture”, Pride month, and the commandeering of the “woke movement” by white women.

Burr began his monologue by praising people who adhered to coronavirus safety measures, specifically the wearing of protective facial masks. However, the comedian then said that he didn’t mind if people refused to wear masks either.

“Take out your grandparents,” he said. “Take out your weak cousin with the asthma, I don’t care. It’s your decision. If you’re that dumb and you want to kill your own family members, by all means do it.”
