Blue Ivy Carter has become one of the youngest people of all time to be nominated for a Grammy.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s eight-year-old daughter was added to the nominees for best music video for her mother's hit “Brown Skin Girl" on Friday (11 December). While she didn’t appear on the original list last month, it’s common for adjustments to be made in the weeks following the announcement.

The video, in which Blue Ivy stars and sings, is competing against Harry Styles’ “Adore You”, Anderson .Paak‘s “Lockdown”, Woodkid’s “Goliath” and Future‘s “Life Is Good” featuring Drake. The winners of the 63rd Grammy Awards will be announced on 31 January 2020.

Leah Peasall of The Peasall Sisters is the youngest Grammy nominee, and winner, in history. She was one of the credited artists on the O Brother, Where Art Thou?  soundtrack, which won album of the year in 2001.

Beyoncé has become the most Grammy-nominated female artist in the history of the awards. She’s up for nine prizes at the forthcoming event, including for “Savage” with Megan Thee Stallion.

She has 79 nominations in total, making her even with Paul McCartney as the second most-nominated artist of all time after her husband Jay-Z and Quincy Jones, who share the top spot with 80 nominations each.

This year, the Recording Academy came under criticism after unveiling nominees for album of the year category.

Up for the coveted award are Taylor Swift for her album Folklore, Dua Lipa for Future Nostalgia, Post Malone for Hollywood’s Bleeding, Haim for Women in Music Pt III, Coldplay for Everyday Life, Jacob Collier for Djesse Vol 3, Black Pumas for Black Pumas (Deluxe Edition), and Jhené Aiko for Chilombo.

While fans of the nominated artists rejoiced, others wondered why acts such as BTS, Lady Gaga, or The Weeknd weren’t included in the selection.
