Blur's Alex James wants Oasis to reunite: 'I'd love them to support us on tour'

The 'Battle of Britpop' has apparently abated, according to James

Their rivalry came to define Britpop in the Nineties, but Blur and Oasis are now on speaking terms according to Alex James.

The bassist-turned-cheesemaker said tensions have eroded so much that he hoped the band would reform so they could support Blur on tour.

James told the Mail on Sunday's Event magazine: “Liam likes our new record and Damon and Noel have become best friends.

"So I really hope Oasis get back together again. I'd love them to support us."

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher recently described Blur's song “Lonesome Street” – from their number one album The Magic Whip - as his ”song of the year“.

The rivalry between Oasis and Blur began in 1995 when the two bands both released new singles on 14 August.

The “Battle of Britpop” continued when Noel Gallagher said he hoped Albarn and James would “catch AIDS and die”.

Oasis split in 2009 after years of friction between Gallagher and guitarist brother Noel.

There continue to be rumours about a potential Oasis reunion, but Liam Gallagher rubbished the most recent reports from his brother.

“I see Noel Katie Hopkins Gallagher is talking out of his slack arse again go polish your SAXAPHONE Ha Ha LGX,” he wrote on Twitter.

Blur will play Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park on Saturday June 20 as a one-off date in the UK.
