Bright Light Bright Light premieres new single 'Symmetry of Two Hearts' ft Elton John - listen

'I wanted to write a song that made me feel as happy as I do watching Mannequin'

Bright Light Bright Light is premiering his new single “Symmetry of Two Hearts” featuring Elton John ahead of its release next month.

Inspired by his love of Eighties movies, the second single from Rod Thomas’ upcoming pop album Choreography is the bubbly, colourful result of watching Kim Cattrall’s Mannequin dance sequence on repeat.

“I wanted to write a song that made me feel as happy as I do watching that.I wrote it in New York when we had the polar vortex and it was freezing. I wanted to feel warm so tried to write the most summery sounding song I could and this is what happened!” he says.

“Originally Elton and I had only planned on him singing on ‘All In The Name’, but we had a whole afternoon in the studio so I took in two others I thought he’d like and he added some harmonies and we had a really fun afternoon. Bonkers really.”

The “Symmetry of Two Hearts” video is directed by Rod in collaboration with Bjork’s live photographer Santiago Felipe while award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett is the man behind those killer dance moves and the concept that spans all three album singles.

“I hear lots of people complain about how hard it is to meet someone, or ask how come they’re still single when everyone else is coupled off, so this is a song about the puzzles of getting two people and two sets of emotions to work in tandem,” says Rod.

Choreography also features Alan Cumming and the Scissor Sisters. The album’s current single “All in the Name” launched on The Graham Norton Show, with Elton joining Rod to perform it.

Bright Light Bright Light will play on Take That’s bill at British Summer Time Hyde Park on Saturday and at GAY on 16 June, before heading out on his own headline tour.
