Q&A with Bruno Major

What are you listening to at the moment

I’ve been listening to the Black Panther Soundtrack this week. Got to be the best blockbuster soundtrack ever. Also there’s an amazing guitar player called Madala Kunene, I love his album ‘King Of The Zulu Guitar.’ I’m a big jazz nerd, one of my favourite parts of touring was finding an album I’ve never heard by an all time great, putting on my headphones and falling half asleep to it in the bus.

Was there something about the footage that you think works particularly well with the song?

The songs central conceit is the focus on the beauty of the world, all the amazing things that the protagonist won’t experience alongside their lost love. I’m not sure there is anything more beautiful than a murmuration of starlings.

What are your plans for 2018?

I’m basically on tour for most of this year. I’m doing an UK arena tour opening for Sam Smith, then a headline tour of Europe and the UK, then a headline tour of America. Hopefully we’ll be playing in Asia and Australia too. In between playing shows I’d like to record another album. It’s going to be a busy year, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What was the first gig you ever played and what's been the best so far?

The first gig I ever played was in my hometown of Northampton. It was a little Italian restaurant and they paid me to play my guitar. There were about 3 people in the room but I was so nervous I was shaking. The best gig ever I’m not sure I could pick. But I just finished my debut tour of North America. We sold out every show and finished at Bowery Ballroom in NY. I’m so proud we did it and pretty much all the shows amazing experiences.
