Chance the Rapper has posted a lengthy and emotional Twitter thread in an apparent response to negative reviews of his new album, The Big Day.

The artist, who released his latest album on Friday after a slight delay, started his thread with the tweet: “I’m getting this crazy feeling that people want me to kill myself.”

He then went on to say suicide is “not my vibe at all, but I feel the push”.

The rapper wrote that he feels like people want him to be “ashamed”, but also thanked those who have supported him: “So for anybody out there that’s texted me the past few days, I appreciate you.

“And I’m happy being able to spend time with my family and do a lot of the things I used to do before I got so wrapped up in making this project.”

Towards the end of the thread, he added: “I just want to reiterate that I don’t want to kill myself, nor am I ashamed of loving my wife. I think I just wanted to say out loud that I see the vibes.”

The Big Day, which is Chance the Rapper’s first official studio album, features appearances from Nicki Minaj, John Legend and CocoRosie, to name a few, and is themed around his wedding to partner Kirsten Corley.
